Frameless glass doors are a key design element of modern architecture. A defining feature is the absence of visible door frames and jambs, resulting in an integration that is virtually flush with the surrounding space. Floor-to-ceiling door systems, in particular, are frequently used in high-quality interior fit-outs; these extend from floor to ceiling and emphasise the vertical lines of a building. The door leaves are usually made of ESG or VSG safety glass and are supported by special swing door fittings, floor-mounted door closers or concealed fitting systems. This allows the door to be opened from either side and to close back to its original position in a controlled manner. Frameless glass doors are particularly suitable for open-plan living concepts, office spaces, hotels and prestigious commercial buildings, where light transmission, transparency and a minimalist design language are paramount. Furthermore, by using different glass finishes – such as clear glass, frosted glass or customised designs – privacy and design requirements can be optimally combined.
