Arbon/Altstätten, 11 June 2013 – Over the next years AFG Arbonia-Forster-Holding AG will be investing around CHF 33 million in the production and logistics infrastructure of EgoKiefer AG, as well as the windows and doors division. With this, AFG is strengthening the leading position of the division in Switzerland and on the international stage. The head office in Altstätten will be developed into a competence centre for wood and wood/aluminium windows; production of vinyl windows in Switzerland will be concentrated at the EgoKiefer site in Villeneuve, Switzerland.
The windows and doors division of AFG Arbonia-Forster-Holding AG operates in a dynamic market, characterized by increasing imports and a shift in demand towards wood/aluminium windows. The division is preparing itself early on for future market demands. To do this it is investing around CHF 33 million to create the conditions necessary for future growth. Half of this is earmarked for EgoKiefer production sites in Switzerland, and the rest will be invested at the Pravenec site in Slovakia.
The EgoKiefer head office in Altstätten will be developed into a competence centre for wood and wood/aluminium windows. Included here is the development of additional production capacity. In order to find the necessary space for this in Altstätten, and also to counter cost pressure, some of the production of vinyl windows will be moved to the existing plant in Pravenec, Slovakia. The plant there will be developed into a competence centre for premium vinyl windows for European markets.
The production of vinyl windows in Switzerland will be concentrated at the EgoKiefer site in Villeneuve. After development work is finished this will be the largest plant for vinyl windows in Switzerland. With these measures EgoKiefer intends to strengthen and continue its position as leader in quality and innovation for windows in Switzerland.
Included in the investments and the establishment of competence centres are optimisations in the areas of acquisition, production and logistics. Together with its purchase in February 2013 of the leading Polish window manufacturer, Dobroplast, and its investments of CHF 30 million in buildings and machinery at the door manufacturer RWD Schlatter AG in Roggwil, Switzerland, the windows and doors division is consolidating its No. 3 position in Europe.
The brands EgoKiefer, Slovaktual, RWD Schlatter and Dobroplast belong to the windows and doors division. With its innovative strength the division is focussing on new trends in the branch. In Switzerland the division has its own decentralized sales and installation organisation, and a nationwide network of dealers. The international markets are mainly served by a dense network of dealers. In 2012 the division (without Dobroplast) achieved net revenues of CHF 396.0 million, and employed 1430 workers.
