Smart flat entrance door? That's for sure! With the SmartDOORS.

A quiet whirring and clicking sound, then the "intelligent door" is open. But nobody is at home. The Arbonia Group's SmartDOORS are the world's first digital access solution. They were developed in collaboration with the Berlin-based company KIWI for housing companies and the property industry.

Online portal, app or transponder - and in the door: sensor plus battery-free motorised lock. In SmartDOORS, flat entrance doors are combined with digital access technology for the first time. The owner or tenant uses the intelligent access system to give their family, friends or service providers secure access to their home: controlled, planned, in a fixed time window, independent of location and resource-saving. They do not need to be at home or hand over a key.

SmartDOORS: How the digital flat entrance door works.

This works just seconds after installation. The door is immediately connected to the online portal. Access authorisations can now be granted at short notice and withdrawn just as quickly: for tradesmen, delivery services, dog sitters, cleaning staff or private guests. All without heavy bunches of keys and time-consuming key management!

An unlimited number of doors and users can even be managed in real time via the KIWI portal. SmartDOORS are operated via PC, tablet and smartphone. App or transponder open the doors.

  • Eco with battery-operated mortise lock,
  • Comfort with electrified mortise lock and burglary protection (RC2)
  • and Premium with electrified motorised lock and triple locking, which offers increased burglary protection (RC2) across all door elements.

Central property management with SmartDOORS: extra-secure

An unlimited number of doors and users can be managed easily, securely and in real time via the KIWI portal - for many thousands of residential units. This makes SmartDOORS the intelligent, digital access solution for housing construction companies and the property industry. Expensive key management with huge boards and complex logistics are a thing of the past. SmartDOORS save time, personnel resources and costs.

The security standard of SmartDOORS is very high: KIWI has developed its own algorithm with security experts and lawyers and applied for a patent for it. Two-factor authentication provides extra security for portal logins. KIWI regularly "tests" its access solution. This involves simulating hacker attacks in a stress test. The KIWI door sensor is also TÜV-certified.

Incidentally, burglary professionals can break doors or windows out of their frames in under a minute. If they don't have to be quiet, it's even quicker. Have you bought your doors and windows cheaply on the internet and not had them professionally installed? Then burglars will have an easy time of it! Even if such a door is "locked" ...

Smart Home: Is your smart home also secure?

"The smart home allows the home, the centre of most people's lives, to be significantly adapted to the needs of the residents. (...) On the other hand, the smart home harbours risks that should not be underestimated due to the mass recording and processing of data."

Maurice Niehoff, in: ABIDA Dossier, May 2018

13 per cent of Germans already use private smart home applications. This figure could double by 2020. But is smart also safe?

Smart meters record user data in the digitally networked home. This can amount to several terabytes of data per week and home. Via "smart grids", interfaces to the outside world, such data is passed on to a digital electricity grid and to third parties, for example to energy companies or property developers.

But how great is the risk of strangers gaining access, "cracking" pins and codes and "hacking" the home system with personal data?

How to protect your smart home: 5 tips

Passwords

Assign your own secure passwords - also for remote access to your Smart Home.

Updates

Update the Smart Home software regularly.

Security

Check how secure and efficient your power and data networks and Wi-Fi connections are.

Smart Home expertise

If necessary, get help from an IT security expert for smart homes who will also come to your home.

Data protection

Make sure you have a valid privacy policy when purchasing smart home devices or systems. This is because the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) also applies to smart home solutions.

Property industry founds "Digital Door Access Initiative"

IDiT is a pioneer: at the end of 2018, leading companies from the property industry founded the "Digital Door Access Initiative". GARANT is one of them. The members have set themselves common goals and want to join forces in the field of digital access systems.

Modernisation and smart home: Opportunities for funding

House or flat owners who want to make their home "smart" as part of a renovation or modernisation project can receive funding from KfW Bank, for example. Provided that the work is for age-appropriate remodelling or significantly improves energy efficiency.

Digital security systems for burglary protection as well as assistance and emergency systems are eligible for funding. Intelligent energy management systems can also be subsidised.

You can find out more about SmartDOORS and the collaboration with KIWI on the PRÜM blog "Door to the world".

"With SmartDOORS, we are there when the doors to the digital access solutions of today and tomorrow open. As a member of the IDiT initiative, we benefit from synergies and the expertise of a strong, reputable network with a pioneering function and the highest security standards. Together, we will further develop the legal framework, standards, interfaces and innovative potential."
