Optimising the use of small rooms - with PRÜM sliding doors

Small living situations require flexibility and creativity - even when it comes to access solutions.

Whether in a tiny house, micro-apartment, urban office space or winding half-timbered houses: PRÜM provides the right solution with sliding doors. In addition to saving space, sliding doors have many other advantages, especially when there is not enough room for interior doors that open into the room. They are flexible in terms of space utilisation and offer living comfort in interior design. We show you what you should consider when choosing your sliding door.

Reduced living and spatial flexibility at the same time - the tiny house movement is looking for new living solutions. With this living trend, more and more people are deciding to live in the smallest of spaces with minimal furnishings. A customised sliding door that separates the living room from the wet room, for example, is an ideal door solution as it requires significantly less opening and movement space than conventional interior doors. This ensures free passage even in a small house.

Internal or classic?

A sliding door can either run visibly along the wall or slide into the wall when opened. Internal sliding doors therefore only take up a minimal amount of space. In the KLASSIK version "running in front of the wall", the upper running box, which matches the colour and decor of the door element used, skilfully conceals the sliding mechanism. Silent operation is ensured by a soft-close mechanism - available on one or both sides.

For living spaces where every centimetre counts, PRÜM offers an extra-slim model. The doors in the SLIM range impress with their minimalist door design and maximum space saving.

More light in the living room

Do you have little natural light in your rooms and are looking for a way to make them appear brighter and larger?

A sliding door with glass elements or in all-glass allows more light into the room. Another advantage: glass elements visually enlarge the room. We offer a wide range of glass variations in the PRÜM range: From completely transparent to complex ornaments, there is a suitable design for everyone. To provide even more light, the sliding doors can be combined with vestibule elements.

Flexible use of living spaces

Sliding door elements work perfectly as modern room dividers. For example, a home office workstation can be visually separated from the living room or the living area can be separated from the kitchen. Perfect for utilising space flexibly and optimally structuring rooms.

Our reference project "Alte Seefahrtschule" shows how this works. Sliding doors are used there to separate the living and sleeping areas. This allows hotel guests to decide individually how they want to use their hotel room during their stay.

Harmonious design in your living space

A door is a central element of interior design. Here too, it is important that all interior doors create a harmonious overall impression. Sliding doors can therefore be fitted with the same elements as all other interior doors. The same design elements can be selected for closed door leaves, doors with glass cut-outs and all-glass doors.

A wide variety of designs with many individually combinable components provide visual eye-catchers. Almost all sliding doors are also available in double-leaf versions.

The perfect sliding door for every requirement

The PRÜM range offers further functions and useful extensions. With SCALA, for example, we offer a system that enables the door to be opened and closed electronically. This combines living comfort and accessibility. Operation via a button, remote control or motion detector is available as an option.

Quick tips: You should consider these criteria when choosing a sliding door

  • Take into account the space available in your living situation.
  • Everything should also match visually. Coordinate the design of your interior doors and sliding doors.
  • Bear in mind that sliding doors can also cause noise. Sliding doors with soft-close mechanisms are particularly suitable for sensitive hearing and neighbours with good hearing.
  • You should also consider factors such as the amount of light available. Glass elements or all-glass sliding doors make your room brighter and make it appear larger.
  • Customise the door to suit your individual needs. Remote control, motion detectors and the like increase living comfort.
