In the test: Impact-resistant round edge for doors

The folding rule crashes onto the round edge of the door. It splinters, the man has hit it so hard. Now he can't believe his eyes: the folding rule is broken, but the door is undamaged. The edge of the door is also as flawless as before. Vanda

"All the big names in the door industry"

"No other door manufacturer has shown so many innovations at BAU this year!"

Detlev Schröder, PRÜM Managing Director for many years, is certain of this. He has experienced the world's leading trade fair BAU from the very beginning. He has also been familiar with PRÜM's trade fair presence since the very beginning: "Back then, we welcomed visitors on 70 square metres with three employees. Today, we are present on 300 square metres with 40 colleagues."

PRÜM invests up to half a million euros in its presence at the central international trade fair for the construction industry. This sum includes not only the costs for the trade fair stand and technology, but also for media, stand rental, catering, travel and personnel: because every two years, the PRÜM-GARANT Group travels to BAU with 40 colleagues. Together, they personally look after visitors at the always full stand. These include dealers, craftsmen, architects, housing associations - "in other words, everyone who is anyone in the door industry," says Detlev Schröder.

The current trade fair concept is a strong mix of products, "hands-on" exhibits and space for communication. Visitors enter a kind of community centre with two brand sides, one for PRÜM and one for GARANT. The centre is the meeting point, the communicative core of the trade fair stand, a space for good conversations and breaks.

Pioneering door technology - from the round edge to SmartDOORS

And how was the trade fair presentation received? PRÜM asked its stand builders and employees about this in writing. The answers are full of enthusiasm:

  • "Significantly more innovative than the competition"
  • "Practically orientated"
  • "All our top customers were on site"

  • "There were already many orders at the trade fair"
  • "No other competitor had so many new products on the stand"

  • "Great new products that you can also sell very well"
  • "SmartDOORS: pioneering technology, great help"

PRÜM has invested several million euros in the new premium edgebanding system with the new CPL surface series. This gives the door manufacturer a head start of several years over the competition. This is because machine manufacturers have long delivery times.

"Our dealers and customers benefit from this," says Marketing Manager Udo Roggendorf. A convincing USP for the PRÜM door. As a result, there were already an unusually high number of orders for sample exhibits and products from the normal interior door and functional door ranges at the trade fair stand. "We've never experienced such a run on a new product directly at the trade fair," says Roggendorf.

PRÜM trade fair appearance at BAU 2021: expansion planned

Even during BAU 2019, PRÜM realised that this trade fair stand needed even more space. After all, it was extremely busy on the main visiting days and sometimes almost too full. "We definitely want to expand," says Detlev Schröder. But that won't be easy, because space at BAU is not only limited, but also highly competitive.

In the meantime, the PRÜM trade fair team has also returned to its daily work routine. In addition to their enthusiasm, the employees are bringing new ideas and customer requests from the trade fair back to the factory: for example, some have suggested regional sales campaigns for premium edgebanding and new exhibition modules. After BAU is before BAU!

Premium edge, anti-fingerprint, SmartDOORS for the housing industry - now it's time to put the door innovations out to tender, market them further and sell them. The feedback from customers on the stand service is a great incentive: "Very good team!", "A strong team", "Good atmosphere", "With heart and soul", "We feel at home with you!"

Conversely, all customers have already received a follow-up report on the trade fair. Anyone who still has questions or needs information about PRÜM's BAU appearance or the trade fair innovations can get help here: kontakt@tuer.de

Door opener for customer contact: Currywurst as a success factor

The PRÜM trade fair stand was also a culinary magnet for visitors: The currywurst sold like hot cakes. "But our 300 portions a day plus 300 pretzels weren't enough," says Detlev Schröder with a laugh. "That's why we're calculating double the quantity for next time!"

From a regional exhibition to the world's leading trade fair: BAU

30 years ago, BAU was a regional trade fair for southern Germany only. Today, it has established itself as THE international trade fair for architecture, materials and systems. For six days in January 2019, it attracted over 2,200 exhibitors and 250,000 visitors from 150 countries. According to a BAU survey, almost 100 per cent of them want to attend again in two years' time. But first, digitalBAU will premiere in Cologne in February 2020 ...
