Door care - the right cleaning (part 1)

The house cleaning is done. Have you thought about door maintenance? Interior doors also need a quick clean at least once a year. Door handles and knobs should be cleaned every week if possible. This is particularly important during the cold season.

High-quality doors from specialist retailers are generally very easy to clean. However, as different as the doors are, so is the care. You can find the best care tips in this article:

CPL door care

CPL surfaces

You should avoid this:

Scouring agents or corrosive cleaners. They attack the surface too much and are usually not necessary.

Extra tip:

Felt-tip pen can be removed from CPL doors with an eraser or eraser. But be careful! As with any material, it is advisable to test the eraser on an inconspicuous area beforehand.

Care of white lacquer doors

White lacquered doors are more sensitive than CPL doors. It is usually sufficient to wipe them with an antistatic dust cloth. However, if they are very dirty, for example due to grease splashes in the kitchen, use a damp cloth. The cleaning water should be lukewarm and mixed with a drop of household cleaner. Then wipe the door dry with a clean cloth. You should soak heavily dried stains before wiping them off. This prevents scratches.

You should avoid this:

Never use abrasive cleaners, solvent-based cleaners or alcohol on white lacquered doors.

Care of glass cut-outs

You should avoid this:

For glass doors and glass cut-outs, you can usually achieve good results without a cleaning agent. Simply use a lint-free cotton cloth or a damp leather cloth. Heavier soiling can be removed with glass cleaner and a clean cloth.

Do not leave any water on the wooden frame. This can cause lasting damage to the frame. Wipe the wooden frame dry after each cleaning.

General tips for door care:

  • Choose the right cleaning cloth: Do not use microfibre cloths or sponges! They have an abrasive effect on some surfaces.
  • Take care when carrying out renovation work: When masking doors, choose painter's tape that will not peel off the surface of the door. Remove the tape immediately after completing the work.
  • Position door stoppers correctly: A door stopper should be as far away from the hinge axis as possible. Otherwise, leverage forces will cause damage to the door frame, hinge suspension and frame.
