Door care - how to keep your door fit

Door care does not just mean cleaning the door properly. Care starts with the installation of the door and extends to small repairs of blemishes. With our tips from the second part on door care, you will be able to enjoy your doors for a long time to come. Here you can find out more about preventing damage, which maintenance work is important and how you can repair small defects yourself.

The right indoor climate

Did you know that a four-person household releases between six and twelve litres of water into the air every day? If this moisture is not regularly aired out, it can cause mould. As soon as it gets colder outside, humidity condenses on cold surfaces, including the front door. Wipe off this condensation regularly with a dry cloth. A particularly large amount of water accumulates in so-called wet or damp rooms (e.g. bathrooms or kitchens).

To protect your door, provide fresh air by regularly ventilating the room. In winter, three to five minutes is sufficient. In spring or autumn, it can take ten to twenty minutes. Ideally, you should ventilate at least three to four times a day. If you are away from home all day, ventilate completely in the morning and evening.

Functional doors need special care

Functional doors protect against negative influences such as noise, burglary, fire, smoke, heat or moisture. In special situations, they can withstand extreme loads. To ensure that functional doors remain operational and in good visual condition for many years, they require a certain amount of maintenance by a specialised company. Maintenance work should also be carried out on "normal" doors at least once a year in accordance with the installation instructions. Some fittings are labelled as maintenance-free.
