Alfred Delp School Centre: Premium edge in use

In Ubstadt-Weiher, Baden-Württemberg, two schools have been merged into a single school complex as part of an extensive building project. The new Alfred Delp School Centre now combines a primary school, a technical school and a secondary school. The contract, sound insulation and fire protection doors with premium edge in the buildings were supplied by door manufacturer GARANT.

In order to guarantee pupils in Ubstadt-Weiher a future-proof and modern learning environment, the school buildings, which were built in the 1970s, were completely gutted and renovated from the ground up. The aim of the multi-million euro construction project was to create a comprehensive school that offers the best conditions for modern educational work thanks to its structural condition. In short: a school that is fit for the future.

Conversion with harmonious architecture

The structural consolidation of the schools required a new system for the confusing complex of different buildings. A planning idea by Weindel Architekten Partnerschaftsgesellschaft m.b.B. from Waldbronn near Karlsruhe connects the individual school buildings to form a visual and structural unit. The central stylistic element is a two-storey glass connecting bridge between the two main buildings, which is accessed via a central entrance area. In addition to the connecting bridge, the construction work focussed on accessibility, fire safety, energy-efficient refurbishment and a modern digital infrastructure in all buildings.

The doors are from the manufacturer GARANT Türen und Zargen. In addition to contract doors, sound insulation and fire protection doors with steel frames were also installed. All elements were designed to be flush-fitting. The functional doors with light cut-out are T30 fire protection elements in accordance with DIN 4102-5, i.e. self-closing fire protection closures that prevent the passage of fire for at least 30 minutes. The GEZE TS 5000 guide rail door closer was used as the overhead door closer.

Modern door surfaces and innovative premium edgeband

Eternal Iron, a grey-brown mottled, matt decor, was chosen for the colour of the Resopal laminate door surfaces. The surfaces, which are modelled on a stone surface, are timelessly modern, robust and extremely easy to clean.

All installed GARANT doors are also equipped with the innovative premium edge in graphite grey RAL 7024. The premium edge in zero-joint technology makes GARANT doors perfect for use in high-traffic areas such as schools. The door gets its unique edge impact resistance from a robust, two millimetre thick edge. The RAL Quality Association for Interior Doors even certifies these doors with the GZ 426 quality mark as having the highest edge impact resistance in stress class E. The premium edge can withstand many hand, foot and satchel impacts without damage. In addition, its small circumferential radius reduces the risk of injury. This makes these doors particularly suitable for schools where the regulations of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) apply.
