Accessibility - Standards free of charge

Accessibility requirements are now enshrined in many building regulations. Due to their significance and importance, the DIN 18040-1 and DIN 18040-2 standards applicable in Germany can be downloaded free of charge from the website of the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, Building and Transport. The following link leads to the two standards, which specify the planning principles for barrier-free construction:

DIN 1804-1 is the planning basis for publicly accessible buildings,
DIN 18040-2 is the planning basis for flats.

At this point, it is necessary to point out that individual state ministries have relativised some points of the standard or declared them to be non-binding.
A typical requirement here is, for example, the handle height for doors. In many cases, the height may remain at the usual 105 cm instead of being lowered to 85 cm.
