Sustainability

For Arbonia, responsible action is an essential requirement for long-term company success. This includes responsible behaviour with employees, suppliers, customers, and investors, as well as with the environment and natural resources.

The three pillars of sustainability

Our sustainability strategy is divided into three areas: environment, social issues and governance. In these areas, we aim to continuously improve our sustainability performance beyond the legal requirements.

Environment

As a building supplier for products and solutions for interior doors made of wood and glass, Arbonia has a responsibility to the environment and climate. We see great potential in the transformation to an environmentally friendly economy and would like to make a contribution to making buildings more sustainable with our product, development and service portfolio. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions along the entire value chain, through product innovations and new solutions, we aim to reduce the environmental impact of our business activities and those of our clients.

About Environment

Social issues

Arbonia's employees are the driving force behind the company's development. At the same time, they act as ambassadors for its values. Arbonia also bears responsibility for employees in the value chain and, in cooperation with its suppliers, is committed to promoting appropriate, safe and healthy working conditions and preventing human rights violations such as child labour or forced labour.

About Social issues

Governance

For Arbonia, lawful and ethical business practices form the basis for responsible corporate governance and thus for a sustainable company. This includes compliance with laws and rights as well as with self-imposed principles, for example regarding internal cooperation, dealings with business partners or other third parties, and the environment. In addition to its own business practices, due diligence in the supply chain is playing an increasingly important role.

About governance

Focus on contributions to promote sustainability

Energy for the future

Two modern biomass cogeneration plants at Prüm and Garant will provide renewable energy in future. Using combined heat and power, these assets will cover round half of the electricity requirement and the entire heat requirement of the two factories. The assets will be fired with production residues, i.e. wood waste from door production.

Climate protection with wood

The use of wood as a building material helps to reduce the greenhouse gas footprint of the emissions-intensive construction sector. In the production of doors and casings, we deliberately use wood, a natural, regionally available and renewable raw material.

Commitments and initiatives

Clear terms of reference and external impetus help us to systematically pursue our sustainability goals.

UN Global Compact

The world's largest initiative for sustainable and responsible corporate governance. Arbonia has been a member since 2021 and has committed to 10 principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption, as well as annual reporting.

EcoVadis

Sustainability assessment across the ranges of environment, human and labor rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. In the current EcoVadis assessment, Arbonia was awarded a silver medal, placing it in the top 10% of rated companies.

Science Based Targets initiative

Initiative, which offers a science-based method for setting emissions targets in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. Arbonia has committed to short and long-term emission reductions according to the Net-Zero Standard of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Sustainability reports

Arbonia publishes an annual sustainability report  in order to communicate transparently on its sustainability approach, concepts, targets, measures and key figures relating to material topics. The sustainability report is based on the GRI Standards and, in 2025, aligned with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) for the first time.
